Pauline Kelly, Witness for Christ

In Memoriam

Born in Ireland, my mother-in-law, Pauline Kelly, was an Irish dancer. She could not have known then that her life would be filled with many hardships, yet she always remained faithful and prayerful. That image of a young girl dancing and looking ahead at her life inspired Let Me Be a Witness, a metaphor for the childlike faith we are called to have. The Celtic-influenced song is placed at the end of Submitted as a call to submission to God despite the circumstances of our lives.

Pauline passed into Glory on September 15, 2011. It was a great privilege and a moving time to honor Pauline at her memorial service with Let Me Be a Witness. Adrina Thorpe, who sings the song on Submitted, sang a beautiful rendition, with producer John Andrew Schreiner playing piano, and I played pennywhistle. Pauline, I hope it blessed you.

Love, Eric

Let Me Be a Witness

Young at heart and dancing free
What will life unfold for me, Lord?

Chorus

Let me be a witness
Living the love of Christ
Submitted to Jesus
Called to serve at the cross

Praying, teaching, serving thee
Clothed in Your humility, Lord

Chorus

Let my weakness be Your strength
Knowing Christ with every breath, Lord

Chorus

I will serve (x4)

Trials and storms encircle me
Through the mist Your light I see, Lord

Chorus

Fought the fight and kept the faith
Take me to Your heavenly place, Lord

Chorus

I will serve (x4)

Young at heart and dancing free
What will life unfold for me, Lord?
